Abby Boyce-Weech -- I found her this morning rolling around in our next door neighbor's yard. I called to her and she ran into the missing window in our cellar, so I took some tote lids and blocked off the entrance to the window, so she can't get out that way. I left some food and water at the top of the stairs for her, so she doesn't starve. Hopefully either later this evening or tomorrow morning I can go back into the basement and catch her. At least I know she is safe, that is the most important thing. Thank you, everyone.

Tank

Our next story up for the EAN year in review is called 'Tank'.

'In the heat of June, this beautiful dog was found tied to a tree by the EPD. He was brought into the ANNA Shelter for care, but his spirit and body were broken. Through the loving and compassionate care of ANNA, Tank found the will to live again. Just look at the amazing transformation in just a month. June was a serious month for in...takes of abused dogs at ANNA. As we support all shelters and their efforts, EAN held a fundraiser to help Tank and 3 other dogs in need that month, and we citizens were able to make a modest donation to help their heroic efforts to save and heal these dogs. Tank is just one example of the heartbreak and triumph that happens each day in our local shelters. Tank is a miracle made possible by compassion. To the EPD who saves animals on the streets like Tank, we thank you. To the ANNA Shelter staff and volunteers, we thank you for helping the helpless and for your dedication to the animals who need you. Thank you for saving Tank, and many more like him! You are heroes!

Ashley & Angel

An EAN Happy Ending for our next year in review story!
This one is called 'Angel's Story'
The network had the chance to help Angel twice this year. We first learned about Angel and her sibling dog after their owners, Brian and Ashley lost their home in a devastating fire in March. The family was not home at the time of the fire, but both dogs were inside. They were pulled from the fire by firefig...hters and Angel required resuscitation at the scene from smoke inhalation. The dogs had lost all their toys, beds, and blankets in the fire, so Erie Animal Networkers stepped up to donate food, toys, blankets and two new beds to these two sweet dogs, whose family had lost everything. Fast forward to the summer. We received word that during the move to their new home, Angel has escaped during transport. The search for Angel, (who still required breathing treatments from the fire), was one of the largest outpourings of community we have seen! We received many sightings, and networkers were out on foot searching. After many, many long days of Angel not being found, networker Lori was able to reach out to the shy and scared Angel when she spotted her, and got her to follow her and her dog home. In a short time, Angel was reunited with her elated family. Thank you networkers for going above and beyond to help Angel!

Tom's Story

The next story up for the 'EAN year in review' is called
'Truck Stop Tom'
Who can forgot the amazing story of Tom? Tom is the beloved co-pilot of an OTR truck driver named David, and their home base is in Virginia. During a trip through Erie early this summer, Tom escaped at the Travel Centers of America truck stop in Harborcreek. Many networkers shared his photo and worried for Tom's well bein...g. As you may know, it is a high traffic area, surrounded by open areas and woods. David had to stop his search and sadly leave Tom's last seen area, but the word got out. We had networkers on the case, and all the employees of TA were keeping an eye out for Tom. After several days of no sightings of Tom, an employee in housekeeping found Tom hiding under an air conditioning unit! It was truly a miracle to find him safe, although very scared and hungry. They were able to contact Tom's very happy and very relieved family in Virginia to give them the good news! In fact, Victoria from TA happened to have a trip planned, and offered to drive Tom part of the way to meet David's wife to pick up Tom!
This is an amazing outcome, and shows that networking and compassion make a big impact! To the employees of TA who helped Tom get back home, we thank you for going above and beyond to help. You are heroes!

A Box in the Rain

We have been sharing the amazing stories of compassion by our networkers in the 'EAN year in review'. We will post one each day through our anniversary on Oct 17.
This story is called 'A Box in the Rain':
This summer, on a very rainy day, 4 very young kittens were found taped up inside of a cardboard box in a parking lot. The finder took them to the Erie Animal Hospital. We were alerted by Orpha...n Angels to the situation, and shared their story. Without hesitation, networker Kimberly Dukich offered to foster the kittens, and went to pick them up that afternoon. Kimberly took amazing care of them until they were old enough to be adopted. In fact, Kimberly adopted 2 of them herself! The other two kittens are awaiting their forever homes at Orphan Angels. Kimberly, we would like to commend you on your compassion for stepping up to take care of these kittens who were cruelly dumped. You showed them love and care, and made a huge difference to them when they needed someone. Kimberly, thank you! You are a hero!See More

The Alley Cats

Today's story for the 'EAN year in review' is called:
'Alley Cats'
This summer networker Denise was visiting Erie for the day, and noticed two black and white kitties in the alley on 13th & Ash. She asked around about them, and learned that they were dumped there and had been around for several weeks. Denise couldn't stop thinking of them, so when she returned home, she sent us a message. I, (Jes...s) decided to stop by the next day to check it out. I went back into the alleyway behind the houses. I saw nothing but trash cans and an old sofa. I called out to see, and suddenly there were two little faces peeking out from under the sofa cushions. They were very friendly, but thin. I got them into the carrier and took them home. This photo was taken after I got them home, fed them, cleaned them up, and applied flea meds. As you can see, they took to the pampered life pretty quickly. Networker Kimarie offered to foster them, and did so for a few weeks. She did an amazing job with them and they became healthy again in her loving care. Through sharing their photo, networkers Karen and Don decided to meet them, and ended up adopting them. These two beautiful boys went from living in an alley with just each other for company, to a beautiful and loving forever home with Karen and Don. Their new names are 'Dilbert and Gilbert' and they are enjoying the good life now. Thank you to everyone who helped make their ending a happy one- Denise for not looking the other way, Kimarie for taking such good care of them, and to Karen and Don for opening up their home and hearts to them. You all made a difference to these two kitties who needed you!

Alone in the Woods

Our next story up for the 'EAN year in review' is called-
'Alone in the Woods'
In March, networker Tonia and her husband found this dog laying in the woods, on top of a mound of dirt. He was all alone with an injured leg. Tonia and her husband took him in and tried to locate his family, but no one ever stepped forward to claim him. Tonia took him in for vet care, and an Xray revealed he had an ol...d fracture in his elbow. They were able to set his leg, and Tonia also had him neutered and vaccinated. He really blossomed under care, and last we heard on him she was screening for just the right home for him. We are extending our heartfelt thanks to Tonia for going above and beyond to help this sweet dog when he was alone, hurt, and needed someone to care about him. Tonia, you are a hero!

Violet & Kittens

Today's story for the 'EAN year in review' is called
'A Networker's Rescue':
In early April, on a cold and rainy day, networker Judy and her neighbor discovered a cat wedged in a drainpipe under a driveway. She was in labor. The cat was pulled out and taken to be cared for in Judy's home, along with the 2 newborn kittens that the mom cat was 'hugging' to keep them warm. Her labor was blocked by ...a still born kitten, and Judy assisted her labor. She went on to give birth to more kittens, with one in need of resuscitation by Judy. The mother cat's condition was bad. It was apparent that she had been laboring and stuck in the drainpipe for quite a while. She had open pressure sores, and her hind legs were paralyzed. Judy, who has training as a vet tech kept her and her babies warm, and safe and and applied and administered medications as advised by the vet. After 4-5 days passed, the mom cat regained the use of her back legs, and the miracle was the paralysis was temporary. This miracle mom and her kittens are alive today because of Judy's compassion. The kittens turned out beautiful and healthy, and they all went to their forever homes. The sweetheart mom, 'Violet' is still waiting for her forever family at Orphan Angels. Judy, you are a hero and we commend you for helping this cat family when they needed you!

Saving Sam

The next featured story for the 'EAN year in review' is called 'Saving Sam':
Sam started out having a happy life with his loving owner, until she passed away. Sam was left outside to fend for himself, and became the victim of not only the elements, and dangers, but some serious abuse by kids in the neighborhood. After he was let outside, Sam was hit by a car. Then some kids tied him to their bicy...cle and dragged Sam behind. He endured horrible pain, and his nail ripped out, and he had a stick impaled in his side. Sam was in bad shape and he was alone. Sam laid low, but decided to trust a kind woman named Suzanne who was feeding him. She eventually was able to take him into the vet, where he was treated for a blood infection from his injuries. He was taken back again later to be neutered and have his shots. Suzanne took it upon herself to help him, and paid all the expenses. After he was healed once again, she contacted EAN to help Sam find a loving home. Networker Judi saw Sam and instantly felt a connection. She adopted Sam, and never looked back! Sam is now happy, loved and safe in his forever home with Judi's family. Sam is a survivor! And we applaud Suzanne for going above and beyond to help Sam when he needed her most. And to Judi, we thank you for opening up your heart and home to Sam! Suzanne and Judi- You are heroes!

Squirrel's Tree Adventure

Meet 'Squirrel', the now famous kitty who was stuck in a tree for many days near the Erie Cemetery. So many people wanted to help her get down, but weren't sure how. Despite food, gentle pleading and worried watchful neighbors, she could not get down from the 30 foot high branch. Networker Dorothy worked with some friends of hers- Brent from Brent Davis Enterprises and Scott May from May Bucket Tr...uck Services to get the kitty down. It wasn't easy to get her down, and Scott really worked hard to get this kitty to safety. In the end she was brought down and taken right away to Erie Animal Hospital by Dorothy. Dr. Jeff said Squirrel is 10-12 months old, is in good health, despite her ordeal. She inhaled the food she was given. After a while, she showed everyone her gratitude by rubbing up against them and purring like crazy! She is a real sweet heart and this damsel kitty in distress will soon be up for adoption at Orphan Angels! Thank you to Dorothy, Brent, Scott, Edna, and to all of our networkers who truly went above and beyond to help this cat in need! You are heroes! ♥
